The Strengths Lens

Helping children learn and think positively about their personality is one of a parents biggest jobs. Typical assessments provide kids with personality types but not necessarily actions or activities to build on childrens' deepening understanding of themselves. The workbook and the Affinities Program do both. That said, here is a glimpse at what you might discover.

The Un-Test in Your Child's Strengths helps kids discover their strengths inclinations.

DIRECTOR You enjoy taking the lead, and you feel good when people want your direction. In groups, you naturally take the lead, and leadership thrills you. You feel self-worth when you are directing others.

NURTURER You feel good when you are taking care of others in some way; you enjoy listening to their problems, and you feel important when you can help someone out.

TRUTH TELLER You feel you play an important role that few people do- you tell the truth and people respect you for this. Although it means you limit your relationships because some people are afraid of the truth, you feel fewer "real" relationships are better than more false ones.

APPRECIATOR You get joy by showing appreciation for the people in your life; you remember birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. People are grateful for the ways you show appreciation, and your relationships are made strong by your attention and thankfulness.

NEGOTIATOR You are a peacemaker and a deal maker. You believe everyone has something to gain, and you don't get caught up in petty conflicts. Because of that you build unique trust with the people in your life.

COACH You are a natural teacher, and people come to you to show them how to do things. You give people confidence and believe in their ability to succeed. You get pleasure from passing on your skills.

INVESTIGATOR You enjoy activities that allow you to analyze problems and investigate facts. You like to see all the parts and determine how they fi t together; you like to research.

ORGANIZER You like to arrange things, organize things, put like parts together, and make sense of things through their patterns and the order they are in. You like activities in which you can collect things and categorize things.

VERBALIZER You like activities in which you can talk through things; you get a charge from talking through ideas and talking with others about ideas and events.

CREATOR You like activities that ask you to make something new and different. You like to be creative; you enjoy design and coming up with innovative solutions. You like to invent things, and you crave originality.

COLLABORATOR You like to work on teams. You enjoy doing tasks that involve others and like to problem solve in groups. You work best with others, and the tasks that call for multiple perspectives attract you.

EXPLORER You like to discover new things and explore new possibilities. You look outward and are able to synthesize many different kinds of information. You enjoy making connections.
